Coax/siamese Vs Cat5e

Coaxial cable and siamese cable (coax with built in camera power wires)

has been the industry standard for years and is still used extensivly in

CCTV instalations today, it is simple, sturdy and works for cable runs

up to 300 feet max. Beyond 300 feet or when coax is too bulky to install cat5e

is the new and improved way to wire CCTV cameras. You must also concider weather

you will need more than just the power and video available in siamese coax.

For example our Whitestar line of cameras utilize and on screen user interface that

requires an additional "data" pair of wires from camera to DVR, any PTZ

camera will also require this third "data" set of wires.

Why cant I just use transformers at the camera location like the cheapo kits have?

When you power your cameras from "local" transformers you loose your ability to condition your

camera power through a UPS (uninteruptable power supply) you will also loose your camera signal

every time there is a power outage or when the criminals cut or shut down the power.

WESCO installs ALL our systems with UPS battery back-up and conditioning for our DVR's and cameras,
